Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.
Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.
This represents his first trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since March of that year.
Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.
The player's defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his ability to play at the elite level was over.
However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.
The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional victory, took control to force a final set.
Moutet saved 4 initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.
Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
